Signing Time!

Recently I was helping out in children's church and service was going a bit long. Parents were lined up at the door ready to collect their kiddos and head to lunch.
Just the presence of 20 or so parents hovering was enough of a distraction, but the chitter- chatter and whispers were just simply rude. Then I saw something very clever.
One of the parents caught her daughter staring at her and the mom began to sign directions to her. The girl very quietly got up, gathered her materials and went to her mother.
Wow!
Everyone thinks about the benefits of teaching a baby sign language to have a form of communication prior to the development of verbal skills. We consider the child who can't speak or has some impairment that limits their abilities.
Have you ever thought of the benefit of signing with a healthy, hearing child?
Picture yourself in church, at a wedding, or some place that is complete inappropriate to speak or verbally correct your child's behavior. With the ability to sign you decrease the distraction to those around you while effectively communicating instructions to your child.
It's another great reason to check out Signing Time!

Great news if you live in Canada:
Recently, to add to the very popular Baby Signing Time, they announced the addition of a Canadian Signing Time website. It is used for people that live in Canada or are shipping to Canada. With the addition of a new warehouse based in Canada, Canadian Signing Time will cut down the price on shipping costs, to Canada, and making the shipping time much shorter. The items being shipped will no longer have to go through customs, cutting out taxes and any other fees. For more details, check out the site: http://www.signingtime.com/canada/

Ideal Bite

With St. Patrick's day just around the corner, what better time to write about going green? No I'm not talking about leprechans, I'm talking about concern and care for our environmental health on planet earth.
There is big talk lately about "going green" and shrinking your "footprint". It can be like learning a new language to some of us. Recycling, making homemade eco-friendly cleaners, buying organic. . . the idea can sometimes seem foreign and far too complicated or pricey to attempt. Change isn't easy, but it doesn't have to be hard either. Ideal Bite is a great website full of information to guide you on your path of environmental friendliness. Sign up for FREE e-mailed newletters that are modern, easy-to-read guides for going green. The next generation will thank you for your interest in our planet.

Nest Family Entertainment

If you are looking for quality family entertainment look no further than Nest Family. They now sell several products that my children know and love. I can confidently recomend a number of their products. For the sake of time I'll stick to three products in this post. Please note that I'm focusing on their DVD sales this time. *They also sell books, audio, teaching tools, and toys.

I LOVE their Animated Bible Stories. Nest Family Videos are a wonderful Christian resource. I grew up on them and my children are learning from them now.

We use Nest Animated New Testament Bible Stories regularly in children's church. Lately we have been discussing Jesus and his miracles. These movies are good quality. The animation is very well done. The style is similiar to Disney as some of the animators once worked on the Disney staff.

I loved the stories as a child and I love them still today. Be sure to check these out.

Second, VeggieTales! Every kid is sure to fall in love with Bob and Larry. Nest Family Entertainment carries a great selection of the Veggie favorites that will keep your children laughing and learning.

My third and final recommendation is Boz. My children are in love with this big green bear. They don't care that he sounds like Barney and his songs stick in my head for eons . . . they are in love. Boz teaches young children very basic and valuable lessons about things that matter for eternity.

Be sure to check out Nest next time you're looking for good family entertainment. You won't be disappointed.
